European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was welcomed at Heydar Aliyev International Airport by Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Ceyhun Bayramov, the head of the European Union (EU) Azerbaijan delegation Ambassador Peter Mikhalko, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Belgium Vagif Sadigov and other officials.
Von der Leyen, in a statement on his social media account, stated that he is in Azerbaijan to sign an agreement on gas supply. Leyen said, “The European Union is turning to more reliable energy suppliers. Today I came to Azerbaijan to sign a new agreement. Our goal is to double gas shipments from Azerbaijan to the EU in a few years. Azerbaijan will be an important partner in our supply security and climate neutrality.
